Nat'v Basics Australia

More than just a comfy underwear brand, Nat’V basics is proof that fashion can be a force for good.

We know their undies are delightfully comfy, there’s no denying that, but did you also know that this Australian label is dedicated to sustainable and ethical practices in every link of their design and manufacturing chain?

Under the leadership of inspirational founder and entrepreneur Sandy Ronalds, a Queensland mum and eco warrior, Nat’V champions sustainability and responsibility at every level, from the natural fibres their delightfully soft undies are made with, to ethical working conditions for their manufacturing staff, right down to being carbon neutral on their shipping emissions.

It’s impressive stuff, and sets the benchmark high for other businesses operating in the fashion space.

Conscious of the rag trade’s terrible environmental track record, and having seen first hand the amount of waste generated by many of the products we buy every day, Ronalds was determined from the get go to ensure her business was part of the solution and not a contributor to the problem.

“I started this business with the vision to do better and create a sustainable company that cares about the planet and its people,” Ronalds explained. “At the centre of every decision I make, is a word that gets thrown around a lot, sustainability.”

Nat’V basics’ environmental commitment starts at a material level, with their superlatively soft underpants being made from Tencel.

A breathable and moisture wicking material that also boasts antibacterial properties, Tencel is created from sustainable Beech tree wood pulp and more than 99 percent of the water used in the production process is recovered and reused.

Tencel’s considered production process is also a closed loop, which means chemicals used in the production of this fabric do not end up seeping into our environment where they can cause damage to precious fauna and flora.

It’s not just Mother Nature that Nat’V basics underwear cares about, with Ronalds and her team committed to ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of their manufacturing workforce.

Cut and sewn in Jiaxing, a city located one hour out of Shanghai, Nat’V workers are paid 24 per cent above the legal minimum wage, and their factory is regularly audited by the Business Social Compliance Initiative to ensure good working conditions.

Once Nat’V basics underwear has been lovingly brought into existence, the Australian brand ships their product with the same level of care and consideration.

Minimal packaging material is used for shipping, and the tissue paper that is used is supplied by No Issue. Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, Nat’V’s No Issue tissue paper cradles the delicate Tencel fabric with paper sourced in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner.

The good stuff doesn’t end there though… Ronalds’ commitment to the environment is so strong that she’s set up Nat’V own offset emissions program, so that by the time your undies reach you, they’re carbon neutral.

We are so proud to stock Nat’V basics underwear at HyperLuxe and applaud this forward thinking Australian brand for encouraging all of us in the fashion industry to do better.
