The Active Collective Trade Show in Huntington Beach, LA was on our radar after being recommended to us. The fact that it was purely activewear appealed to us immensely due to it being our first exhibition! Day one of trade show was crazy busy, everyone was excited, friendly and full of enthusiasm - there was a buzz in the air!
Day two was a little more chilled out with time for one on one meet 'n' greets and a chance for a second look around each stall. Then it was off to NYC for some 'us' time where good food, exercise (the must do Soul Cycle & Gotham Boxing) and shopping were on our agenda. It didn't disappoint! The sun was out, we walked everywhere and did not stop until it was dark, then would be very happily cosied up in our hotel room - exhausted. Our first trade show experience was extremely successful and very enjoyable!
What were some of the highlights of the trip?
Meeting our suppliers in person; it's awesome to put a face to a name!
Were there any new athleisure style trends you fell in love with?
Too many to list but here are a few; sneakers with absolutely everything, evening style silky dresses, tailored pants, long skirts, culottes, overalls - you name it! Also full length leggings are still being worn in summer due to the quality of the fabric and the compression composition. Full length white leggings - who would've thought!
Describe some current Californian trends and styles - any similarities to Perth?
Stylish athleisure worn all day, everyday. Everyone styled their activewear in edgy, unique ways inspiring us with what & how to wear our outfits. Acai bowls are so popular over there which was fortunate for us as we are the acai bowl queens! We would happily have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner - Tropico's are our fave!
How would you describe current trends in NYC - which of these do you think would catch on in Perth?
Moto style detailing and well positioned mesh inserts. Both of these would catch on in Perth due to the style having the ability to offer the customer a point of difference whilst remaining stylish.
Are there any cute cafes or hangouts you'd recommend visiting?
Two Hands in NYC was recommended to us by AndAndrea and it did not disappoint. Run by a couple of Sydney guys, think acai bowls with a side of freshly baked, straight out of the oven banana and walnut bread. Equinox was another favourite hangout - it's everything we love all in the one place; healthy food, fashion, gym and a day spa.
